British Scholars Reception in Nottingham

On 31 October, there was an unforgettable reception held in Nottingham, which is organised by the British Council. It was hosted by the Mayor of Nottingham (see in the photo, next to me). At least a hundred British scholars from all over the world came to the precious moment. Meeting new friends, building network, sharing information of our country, and many more. I became Indonesian's representative at that time. SBY should be proud of me because I was a good public relation :)

During the reception, we were guided by the Mayor on how to live in UK. He mentioned that regardless the diversity in ethnic groups and cultural differences as well, Nottingham is widely open to international students. The Mayor is actually Pakistani, yet, he is able to be the Mayor of Nottingham. What a diversity that Nottingham has. That is why, first impression when I arrived at Nottingham is, it is a peaceful place to live in.

Having chatting around with the Mayor, the next agenda was getting to know to other Scholars. It was really interesting to know other country's culture, national dress, and hot issue. I met with some Indians who wore their national dress. I also had a chance to chat with some guys from Russia who were not really know where Indonesia is. But when I told them about the Bali Bomb, they remembered it in a second. My poor country, I had to introduce it as a 'bomb targeted' country.. Of course, there are so many things to tell about my lovely country, Indonesia.

Finally, the clock was pointed at 9 in the evening. There is still the long and winding road in front of me. Having a new network and society brings much more confidence for me to uplift my personal achievement.

Hasta la vista, amigos. Till we meet again, Nottingham.
